by It was announced by Maxpreps.com and the American Volleyball Coaches Association that Shaylene Richard (Oglala-Lakota) was named the State of South Dakota Athlete of the Week for the week of September 22 – September 28, 2014.
Richard, a 5’3 junior setter at Pine Ridge High School in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, helped lead the Lady Thorpes (13-0) in a 25-16, 25-18, 25-15 win over Cheyenne-Eagle Butte in Pine Ridge on Saturday by dishing 37 assists and five aces for the Lady Thorpes.
Pine Ridge and Cheyenne-Eagle Butte will each play in the LNI beginning Friday. Pine Ridge plays Takini in the first round and Cheyenne-Eagle Butte (9-5) takes on Red Cloud. Cheyenne-Eagle Butte hosts Mobridge-Pollock on Tuesday.
