CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 7 University of Oklahoma wrestling team dropped a 22-12 contest to Oregon State on Thursday night inside Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore. With the loss, the Sooners fell to 9-5 on the season.
In an exciting 133-pound match, No. 4 Cody Brewer recorded a 12-7 decision over Joey Palmer. Palmer connected on two takedowns in the first to take a 5-4 lead, but Brewer used an escape and two takedowns in the second to take back the lead, 9-6. The redshirt senior tacked on another takedown in the third and the riding-time point for the win.
Davion Jeffries (Muscogee Creek Nation) secured an 11-5 decision over Joey Delgado at 149 pounds. Jeffries took a 2-1 lead after the opening frame and used an escape and a takedown in the second to extend his advantage to 5-2. The freshman went to work in the final period, tallying an escape, a takedown and a 2-point nearfall to finish the bout at 11-5.
In the 165-pound contest, redshirt junior Clark Glass registered a 3-1 decision over Seth Thomas. The match was scoreless after the first period, but Glass secured on a takedown in the second for a 2-1 advantage through two periods. Glass’s escape to begin the final frame would be the final points of the match.
Redshirt junior Matt Reed downed Tyler Chay at 174 pounds by 8-2 decision. Reed led 2-1 after the opening frame and tacked on a second-period takedown to extend his lead to 4-2 through two periods. After a Reed escape and takedown in the third, he secured the riding time point for the win.
At 125 pounds, No. 7 Ronnie Bresser downed No. 8 Ryan Millhof in a 3-1 decision, and Jack Hathaway registered a win by fall in 4:18 over Trae Blackwell in the 149-pound contest. In the 157-pound match, Shayne Tucker dropped a 5-2 decision to Abraham Rodriguez.
Corey Griego defeated Andrew Dixon by 12-1 major decision at 184 pounds and at 197 pounds, Cody Crawford tallied a last-second takedown for a 4-2 decision over Brad Johnson. No. 15 Ross Larson dropped an 8-6 decision to No. 10 Amarveer Dhesi in the heavyweight bout.
The Sooners return to the mat on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m. CT for their final dual of the season with No. 24 South Dakota State inside McCasland Field House. Fans can purchase tickets online or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at 405-325-2424.
