Sydney Little Light (Crow): A student athlete with numerous accomplishments

Rocky Mountain College cross country and track star Sydney Little Light (Crow) is a student with numerous accomplishments. At the 2022 NAIA Track & Field Championships, she became the first individual national track and field champion in the history of RMC when she won the women’s 1,500-meter race. Two months later, in the off-season, she claimed the Montana Mile title to open the Big Sky State Games. In November, she was named an All-American after her 3rd place finish in the National Cross Country Championship meet, cementing her position as one of the most successful NAIA distance runners RMC has ever seen.

Sydney aspires to become a homicide detective and investigate these cases after she receives her Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. At the NAIA indoor championships in March 2022, she painted the red hand-print symbol of the MMIP movement across her mouth, a sign of the large number of female Native American voices that have been silenced due to disappearance and death.

The summer before her senior year, Sydney interned for the Native American Development Center, where she focused on suicide prevention and working with Native youth. She also worked as a residential advisor in the RMC resident housing to earn room and board. On top of everything, she sings as a soprano in the college choir. Despite numerous responsibilities and challenges, Sydney maintains a bubbly personality and always finds time to help others.
