Taylor Pino (Navajo) Signs Letter of Intent with the Navajo Technical University Rodeo Team

Crownpoint, NM— Taylor Pino, a soon-to-be graduate from Crownpoint High School, will join the Navajo Technical University community soon. She will be pursuing NTU’s Business Management Program under the guidance of Associate Professor Christine Reidhead. Friends and family gathered to witness Taylor’s signing with the NTU Rodeo team and were thrilled to see her compete with other adrenaline and adventure seekers at the collegiate level. Stepping into that dusty arena will surely make for an exciting adventure.

Taylor Pino is a senior at Crownpoint High School and holds two presidential titles, one for the Senior class and the other for the Mathematical, Engineering, Science Achievements Club. Recently, she signed her letter of intent to rodeo for Navajo Technical University.

“It is a moment I will never forget; I felt excitement and determination when I put pen to paper. I knew that by committing to pursue my passion for Breakaway at a higher level, I was also taking a significant step in furthering my education.”

Taylor received tremendous support from her family, friends, and coaches during the process, making the experience even more meaningful. This reminded her of the strong community standing behind her in this journey, pushing her to strive for academic excellence in the arena.

“One quote that has always resonated with me is, “Reach for the stars because even if you fall, you land on a cloud.” This quote captures my mindset perfectly as I embark on this new chapter. I’m eager to represent Navajo Technical University with pride and confidence, honing my skills in the rodeo world, always reaching for new heights, and embracing challenges along the way.” Taylor said.

Navajo Technical University is proud to offer the exhilarating sport of Rodeo through its Skyhawk athletic program. Head coach Nicole Pino is dedicated to taking her athletes to the next level and building a robust Rodeo Team.

Nicole expressed excitement about the event involving Taylor, herself, and their school. It was a momentous occasion as it was the first time in eight years that Nicole had been appointed as the NTU Rodeo Coach, and they had important guests at a Rodeo Team signing. Taylor, the reigning Miss Indian Junior Rodeo Association Queen, had decided to attend Navajo Technical University because it offered her many advantages, including proximity to her hometown, where she could be around horses and livestock that her grandfather had left her. She had also bonded with the NTU rodeo team and was welcomed as their little sister. Taylor had chosen to major in Business and would receive guidance from Dr. Christine Reidhead. Nicole was thrilled that Taylor would start her college career as she was a dedicated student who loved challenging herself with daily, weekly, and long-term goals.

“I want to thank Dr. Christine Reidhead, Miss NTU, and the school board members for showing their support and making a special appearance. I know how important your time is, so thank you. I usually sign as the Head Coach, but now as a parent this time. At the beginning of the event, I saw only my little girl, Taylor, and it didn’t hit me until I gave her the vest. When she put that NTU Rodeo Team Vest on and turned toward me, it hit me like a ton of bricks: she would be a college athlete and looked so mature. Taylor had her high school friends, rodeo team, principal, teachers, and Dean cheering her on. Taylor mentioned that her biggest supporters, Mr. Sean, and Ms. DJ, could not make it. As her mother, I know she’ll do her best to represent herself, her school, and her grandpa. As her coach, I know she will advance in school and standings. She makes me one proud mom. Thank you to all who show their support. Never stop learning. Be humble. Appreciate the journey,” Nicole concluded.
