The Lady Raider Golf team recorded their highest finish of the 2015-16 season Tuesday placing fourth in the highly talented Jim West Challenge field. Sophomore Gabby Barker (Shoshone/Paiute) carded a 211 (-5) over the 54 hole event to earn co-champion honors.
“I am really proud of the team,” said head coach JoJo Robertson. “They fought hard and came up just short. Gabby played extremely well and I couldn’t be happier for her.”
The Lady Raiders finished the tournament 18 strokes back of tournament champion Kent State who finished the three day event with a 852 (-12). Tech, one of three Big 12 schools in the event, finished one stroke ahead of Texas and 14 strokes ahead of Oklahoma in the 13 team field.
Freshman Mami Yamamoto shined on day three of the tournament shooting a 71 (-1) on day three including a hole in one on the par 3 hole three to mark her first career hole in one. Barker, the tournament’s co-champion, shot the lowest 18 hole score for the Red Raiders with a second round 68 (-4). Her second round score was just one stroke off of her career best 18 hole score of 67 shot at the Web.com Intercollegiate in March.
Texas Tech will return to the course on Oct. 19-20 when the team will travel to Austin, Texas to compete in the prestigious Betsy Rawls Invitational.
