SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota junior guard Treysen Eaglestaff has been named the Summit League Men’s Basketball Peak Performer of the Week, per league officials on Monday. Eaglestaff averaged 24.0 points per game in wins over Dickinson State and Utah Valley to earn the league’s weekly honor for the fourth time in his career.
Eaglestaff’s week began with a trip home as he returned to his native Bismarck to take on Dickinson State in the inaugural Capital City Classic. He led the Fighting Hawks to a convincing 85-54 win over the Blue Hawks as he delivered 17 points behind eight makes from the stripe and a 40% shooting night overall. In 23 minutes of play, he added four rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Less than 48 hours later, Eaglestaff exploded for 31 points on a career-best ten made shots against Utah Valley setting a personal best in scoring inside the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center and finishing just two points off of his career high. Eaglestaff’s effort, which included three second-half trifectas and a near perfect effort from the stripe in nine attempts (8-9) guided the Hawks past the Wolverines 77-71. He finished with three assists and a rebound in a game-high 34 minutes.
All three of the junior’s makes from deep came at critical moments. He nailed a rhythm three with under 15:30 to play that cut the Hawks’ deficit to one, added a second one of the step-back variety that gave UND a lead with less than six minutes to play and hit his final shot from range just south of the 3:30 mark that put UND up seven.
For the week, Eaglestaff scored 48 points on 51.9% (14-for-27) shooting in just over 56 minutes of action. He went 4-of-11 from beyond-the-arc and made 16 of 17 free throw attempts. He totaled seven assists, five rebounds and a steal.
