Ty Thompson netted five goals as the Iroquois Nations team pulled away to beat Australia, 16-9

NETANYA, Israel — Former Salmon River product Ty Thompson netted five goals as the Iroquois Nations men’s lacrosse team pulled away to beat Australia, 16-9, in a Blue Division game at the FIL World Championships on Sunday.

Brothers Lyle Thompson and Miles Thompson added three goals and two assists and one goal and one assist, respectively, for the Iroquois Nationals. Former Immaculate Heart Central standout and Carthage resident Mike Lazore chipped in a goal.

In other action, Mario Ventiquattro finished with four goals as the Philippines downed Switzerland, 11-5. The Philippines are coached by former longtime Carthage coach Kirk Ventiquattro. Former Comets players Tony Ventiquattro, Ben Gaebel and Rob Cross are assistants.

Russia routed Luxembourg, 24-1. Andre Young, a 2017 Lowville Academy graduate, plays for the Russian squad and has appeared in all three tourney games.

The United States edged defending champion Canada, 11-10, thanks to Paul Rabil’s goal with one minute, 10 seconds left in regulation.
