WASHINGTON – The Tewaaraton Foundation and US Lacrosse has announced that Chaunce Hill, who will play for the UAlbany men’s lacrosse team next spring, is the male recipient of the ninth annual Tewaaraton Native American Scholarship.
“We are extremely proud to be welcoming in another outstanding young Native American student-athlete,” said UAlbany coach Scott Marr. “We are excited for Chaunce to be honored with this award. He will be joined by fellow Native Americans Cougar Kirby and Colyn Lyons in our freshman class.”
Hill, a student-athlete at Akron High School in New York, will graduate in June with a 3.7 GPA. A member of Six Nations Seneca, Hill is a former member of the U-16 Iroquois field team as a defender and will suit up for the Great Danes this upcoming season.
As stated in the US Lacrosse press release, the ninth annual Tewaaraton Native American Scholarship is awarded to a one male and female high school student-athlete each year of Iroquois/Haudenosaunee heritage who “exemplify high character, leadership and academics both on and off the lacrosse field.”
The recipient of the scholarship is awarded $10,000 over his/her first two years of college. Hill will be honored at the Tewaaraton Award ceremony in Washington, D.C. on May 28th.
In 2014, UAlbany women’s lacrosse then-commit Alie Jimerson was the female recipient of this scholarship.
