Western New Mexico Men Finish 5th; Jacob Riley (Laguna) Leads the way for Mustangs

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – Competing against several Division I teams, as well as many Division II, III and NAIA teams, the Western New Mexico University cross country teams competed well at the Incarnate Word Invitational Saturday at the Live Oak State Park.

On the men’s side, the Mustangs collected 110 points to land in fifth while Tarleton State won the team title of the non-Division I schools with 61 points. WNMU tied Trinity for fourth, but landed in fifth due to a tiebreaker. Jacob Riley (New Laguna, NM/Laguna Acoma ) lead the way nearly finishing in the top-10 coming in 12th with a time of 25:21.0. In terms of runners not Division I or unattached, he landed in the top-five. Enrique Jimenez (El Paso, TX) wasn’t far behind with a time of 25:39.6 to land in 19th. Jose Rojas (Nogales, AZ) came across with a time of 26:11.7 which was good for 33rd. Esteban Sotelo (Lovington, NM/Lovington) grabbed 67th with a time of 27:17.9. Jakob Tuite (Albuquerque, NM/Del Norte) rounded out the runners for the Mustangs coming in 87th with a time of 28:01.3.

WNMU will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 25 when they will travel to La Jolla, Calif., to compete in the Triton Invite.
