SPOKANE, Wash. – Zalissa Sanfo won Northwest Conference Rookie of the Year according to the official release from the conference this afternoon.
Sanfo is the second Pirate ever to win rookie of the year, the first was Camy Aguinaldo in 2018. Sanfo’s freshman season was truly spectacular, the center led the conference in rebounds (10.8) and blocks (2.8), ranking 11th in all of Division III with 73 blocks. Sanfo broke Whitworth’s single-game rebounding record with 21 rebounds against George Fox on February 10. She’d tied the previous record of 20 rebounds twice against Schreiner and Lewis & Clark earlier in the season. Sanfo was also Whitworth’s second-highest scorer with 9.9 points per game, including a season high of 22 against L&C in February. She started all 25 games and averaged 30.7 minutes per game.
